When does the GARAN label become mandatory?

From 27 September 2026, under Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960.

When must the GARAN label be shown?

Where the producer gives a commercial guarantee of durability longer than two years, free of charge and covering the whole product. At two years or less the label may not be used.

May the nested strip be printed?

No. It is for digital display only. In print, the full label is used at no less than 95 by 100 mm.

Does it apply to me?

This is not the legal guarantee of conformity. It is the commercial guarantee of durability that the producer gives voluntarily. The duty to display it falls on the trader offering the product.

Longer than two years. The label may only be used for a producer guarantee longer than two years. Two years or less is out of scope — the label may not be used there. Art. 5(1)(ea)/6(1)(la) Dir. 2011/83/EU, inserted by Dir. (EU) 2024/825
Free of charge, and for the whole product. The guarantee must come at no extra cost and cover the entire product, not individual parts.
Half years are allowed. Whole years and half years written with a comma, such as 2,5 or 3,5.

If one of these does not hold, nothing else changes: the legal guarantee and your other information duties stay exactly as they are. Only this label falls away.

What the label must show

The label is fixed down to the typeface. Only three fields may be changed: the guarantee duration, the brand or trademark and the model identifier. Everything else — the title, the EU emblem, the calendar symbol, the QR code and the translation band in all 24 official languages — is reproduced unchanged.

Only three fields differ: 5, Nordwind, NW-140 Kettle. The brand is invented for the example.

Minimum size in print. The full label is reproduced at no less than 95 × 100 mm.
Inter as the typeface. The regulation prescribes it; files whose text is exported as outlines need no font installed. Annex II note 6

The full label, with brand and model

Questions people ask

Is this the European Commission's official tool?

No. Garanlabel is independent and is not affiliated with the European Commission or any other EU institution. The Commission publishes the label's artwork precisely so that producers and sellers can reproduce it; we pass it on unchanged and fill in only the three fields the regulation marks as editable.

Is 2.5 years allowed?

Yes. Whole years and half years, written with a comma. What is not allowed is using the label for two years or less.

May I print the strip?

No. The nested strip is for digital display. In print and in the shop you use the full label, at no less than 95 × 100 mm.

May the label be black and white?

In physical shops only. Online it must appear in colour.
